This can also be a difference between My Movies for iPhone/iPad and Android, as iPhone/iPad does not yet support this feature.

Answer:

My Movies 4 on Android introduced a new "Count As" feature to use in relation to box sets, and this can cause a difference in how your collection is counted, with My Movies 4 having a more accurate count.

The change relates to disc title box sets - box sets can exist in our service either as a full box set with child titles, but for box sets that have not been created as full box sets with child titles, only the parent title will exist in the service. In My Movies 3, and in My Movies 4, if the "Count As" value have not been set, a full box set will count as the amount of child titles in the box plus the parent title itself, where a box set consisting of only a parent title will count as one.

In My Movies 4, a "Count As" value could have been set in the global data, which specifically have to match the amount of movies contained in a box set - this can be either for titles created as full box sets with child titles, where the box may contain a certain number of child titles, with only some of them being movies, others may be bonus feature titles - here the "Count As" information can be set to count specifically how many movies the set contains - the other example is a title that have not been created as a full box set with child titles, and only exists as a parent title - here, the "Count As" information could also have been used to set how many movies the set actually contains.

This means that for box sets where the "Count As" information have been set, a full box set with child titles with two movies contained in the box, would in My Movies 3 count as 3 items, where in My Movies 4 it would only count as the two contained movies. On the other hand, box sets that are not created as full box sets, and therefore only exists as a parent title would count as one in My Movies 3, but if the "Count As" information have been set, it would count as that value in My Movies 4, so, there can be changes that have an impact on your title count in both direction - the changes however means that My Movies 4 will have a more accurate count.

Notice! You can use the "Filter" function to filter by "Count As", allowing you to display only titles where this information is set, allowing you to see the titles causing a difference - you can also use this functionality to show only titles where the "Count As" information have not been set, but where it might should have been, in which case you can use the "Add Missing Data" function to contribute the "Count As" information.

In the situation where you disagree on how a set should be counted, you can overwrite the "Count As" global data information with a matching personal data field, in the personal data area for the individual titles. It could be in a situation where you prefer a box set title to count only as one, or where you would like to also count bonus feature titles as titles in the collection.

Can I add my own covers to the titles in the collection?

Question:

Can I add my own covers to the titles in the collection, since I have a title that does not have a cover, or I would like a different cover than the one provided.

Answer:

It depends on the situation.

The first important thing to understand is that the profiles you have in your collection is not some that you can freely edit. The data and covers on the profiles is loaded from our online service, and except for the data in the personal data sections, you cannot edit these profiles. The personal data section does not include covers.

The reason you cannot freely edit the profiles is that My Movies is based on you being able to switch between clients, and your collection synchronizes automatically between all clients - this also functions as a backup if you loose your device and get a new, as your data belongs to your user account.

If you were allowed to freely edit all the data, including the covers on the profiles, your edits would either be made in the local database on one of your devices, and would not transfer to your other clients, and would not be backed up in case you loose your device. The alternative would be that our online system should maintain individual user data on all of the titles in the system, a figure that is higher than 150 million titles, and in the event that you add a personal low-quality cover for one of your titles that is missing a cover, what should happen if a high-quality cover is added to the global system?

The fact that you cannot freely edit the titles in your collection for the above reasons means that any changes made to the non-personal data part of the title profiles must be something that is contributed to the global My Movies online service, and therefore must follow our contribution guidelines, and will pass through our moderation system. By contributing to the online service, your addition to the title profile becomes available to all other users having the same title.

Contributions to the online system can be made from a desktop PC, using our My Movies Collection Management for Windows or My Movies for Mac OS X software packages, or you can use the "Add Missing Data" function in the bottom of the details page on recent versions of the mobile applications.

Therefore, you can add covers to the titles in your collection if the covers follows the contribution guidelines. In any other event, you cannot add your own covers.

Notice:

This answer relates to title profiles added from our online system, and not titles created manually using the "Create Title" options in the mobile applications, or manually created on Windows or Mac, and uploaded as a personal title. These titles are considered personal, and here you can change the titles as you would like.

Why does my collection numbers and title counts differ?

Question:

Why does my collection numbers and title counts differ?

Answer:

You will often see that the collection numbers on the titles in your collection differs from the title count numbers for the collection.

Collection numbers are not in any way related to a title count, but is designed to be equivalent to a number sticker placed on each title in the collection - once a title gets a collection number, it keeps that collection number, unless you manually change it, or use a reset collection numbers function. This means that if you have a collection of 3 titles, with collection numbers 1, 2 and 3 in your collection, and you for some reason remove the title with collection number 2, because of a sale or damage, you will have collection numbers 1 and 3, but will have a title count of 2.

This way, you can be sure that a certain title will always have the same number, no matter what happens to other titles in the collection - if you consider these equivalent to a sticker, you also would not move the stickers of 299 titles if you have a collection of 300 titles and sell title number 1.

Since collection numbers are part of personal data on the titles, and not a virtual on-the-fly calculated number, the applications does not have an option to handle collection numbers differently, such as a functionality where all collection numbers shift, should you remove a title from the collection, because it would mean that all titles with a collection number higher than the one you remove would have to be changed, in some cases, for users with many titles, meaning thousands of titles which has to be changed and updated in sync between the server and the client, as well as any other client.

There is on latest versions of all clients a "Reset collection numbers" function, which will reset the collection numbers based on the current selected sorting on the client - this functionality will change all the titles, and the process can take some time - it is not intended that you use this function to re-number your collection frequently, but it does give you an option to have the collection numbers reset, perhaps because you would like them set depending on a different sorting, or because you made a larger clean-up in your collection.

I have received a coupon code, how can I use it?

Question:

I have received a coupon code, how can I use it?

Answer:

Coupon codes are typically given when having received an invitation from a friend to use the My Movies applications and hook up as a friend, or can be received as part of specific campaigns. Coupon codes can be used with our applications for iPhone, iPad or Android, and are not limited to the same platform a friend is using - you may receive a coupon code from a friend using an iPhone, but you can use this coupon also when using an Android device.

Coupon codes can be used to upgrade our free applications with its 50 title limit to an unlimited version, giving you the same functionality as our Pro versions, with the one exception that coupon codes are used to unlock a discounted in-app purchase, and neither Apple or Google supports family sharing on in-app purchases - Could I at least get a rebate when purchasing multiple applications?

Answer:

Our applications are considered separate applications on separate platforms, even though they have similar or identical feature sets. iPhone and iPad is since My Movies 2 considered one platform, referred to as the iOS platform.

When switching from an Android phone to an iPhone or to a Mac or visa versa, you are switching from one application store to another (Google Play Store, iTunes App Store, Mac App Store, ect.), and there is technically not any relation between the purchase you made on one platform to a purchase on another - Google, Apple and Microsoft are technically the ones selling the application, and if we were to apply the purchase to your user account and let you purchase outside of the Google Play Store and iTunes App Store, this would be seen as an attempt to bypass their purchase models for which Google, Apple and Microsoft charges a 30% fee, and it would mean that our applications would be banned from the stores.

Although we would like to give a rebate to users purchasing our applications on multiple platforms, this is not an option available to providers on neither the iTunes App Store, the Mac App Store or Google Play Store, and we therefore are unable to do so.

You can compare the situation to a Ford car dealer - if you purchase a Ford Focus, you do not automatically get a Ford Fiesta and a Ford Mondeo to go with it - similar to how the Ford models are separate models with a similar feature set, our applications are also separate, and therefore separate purchases.

Notice! Even though our applications have a similar or identical feature set on multiple platforms, we also have separate development costs for the individual platforms.

Why can't I import my CSV file with the importer?

Question:

The application I am currently using can export my collection to a CSV file, why can't I import this file?

Answer:

The option to import from a CSV file will work only when the CSV file contains data specifically created for the importer.

"CSV" stands for "Comma Separated Values", which means that this is simply a file containing any sort of data, separated by comma. Therefore, a CSV file is not a pre-specified universal format for exporting your movie collection, but the individual applications own choice of which data to export, and in which order.

The import function recognises a number of applications that can be selected directly, where the importer are aware which fields to expect in the supplied file, but when using the generic CSV or file import option, the supplied file cannot just be any CSV file from any application, it must specifically be a file containing the data that the importer expects.

Since My Movies does not simply track limited typed in data for your titles, but instead lets you add shared and detailed profiles from our online service to your collection, when you import from another application, we are not simply importing your data, but the importer will match your existing data to profiles in our service. Therefore, the CSV file supplied must specifically contain 12 or 13 digit UPC or EAN barcodes (recommended) (which can link directly to the unique disc title profile) or alternatively IMDB id's such as (tt0000000) (which can only link to the generic movie profile), as these are the only informations we can use to determine which title in your collection that matches which title in our service.

Besides containing these barcodes or imdb ids, the file must specifically include them in the first column of the file, as the importer needs to know where to look for them - when you simply export a CSV file from the application you are currently using, some of the applications does not even hold the option to export barcodes or imdb ids, where others have the information places somewhere in the file where the importer cannot locate them.

Therefore, your CSV file must be imported into an application such as Excel, and you can from there create a new file with only one column, containing either barcodes, or IMDB ids, and you can then supply this file to the importer.

Some applications may not export barcodes or imdb ids, but will simply export a list of titles - you cannot import from such application, as titles can be typed differently, and it becomes much too uncertain that the titles you are importing are also the titles you end up with, and if you cannot be sure of this, there is not much value in an import. If you cannot import from your existing application due to lack of data in it, we recommend that you try to evaluate our batch scanning option, by setting the barcode scanner to multi-scanning, as it might be a lot faster than you think to start over.

Which launch commands does the My Movies applications provide?

Question:

Which launch commands does the My Movies applications for iPad and iPhone provide, if I would like to integrate with them in my control system?

Answer:

The following launch names are supported by the applications:

mymovies - My Movies Pro - Movie & TV Collection Library 2.XX

mymoviesipad - My Movies for iPad Pro 1.XX

mymoviesiphone - My Movies for iPhone Pro 1.XX

The following locations of the applications can be opened by sending a "host" parameter:

collection - Opens the application on the "Collection" tab.

persons - Opens the application on the "Persons" tab.

releases - Opens the application on the "Releases" tab.

trailers - Opens the application on the "Trailers" tab.

remote - Opens the application on the "Remote" tab. Due to this, "callerName" and "returnUrl" have been deprecated in My Movies 2.

Additionally, the "zone" parameter can be used to select a specific remote playback and remote control zone. The parameter must contain the name of the configured zone in the remote control section of the My Movies application, such as "Bedroom" or "Livingroom". The user will when this parameter is provided not be prompted for playback location, or remote control location, but the passed zone will be selected directly.

Example of usage in code:

NSURL *callUrl = [[NSURL alloc] initWithScheme:@"mymoviesipad" host:@"persons" path:/?callerName=Launching Application&returnURL=launchingapplication://paramsforlaunchingapplication];

[[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:callUrl];

Example of usage from other applications where a launch string must be inputted:

mymoviesipad://persons/?callerName=Launching%20Application&returnURL=launchingapplication://

How can I re-install the first version of My Movies for iPhone or My Movies for iPad?

Question:

I can no longer locate my purchased My Movies for iPhone or My Movies for iPad version 1 in the App Store. How can I re-install it on my device, or install it on a new device?

Answer:

In December 2014, the first version of the My Movies for iPhone and My Movies for iPad applications was replaced by a new and significantly improved version 2 under the name "My Movies Pro - Movie & TV Collection Library", which is a paid-for upgrade, and the first version of the application is now no longer available for purchase on the App Store.

Users who do not wish to upgrade to the new application can re-install the first version by opening the App Store on their device, click on the "Updates" tabbar icon, and then click the "Purchased" link in the top, to access their list of purchased applications. In here, your purchase of My Movies for iPhone or My Movies for iPad will be listed - the applications will be listed by purchase date, and due to this, if you have many purchased applications, it can be a little difficult to locate.

You can from this list re-install the application as any other application in the App Store.

Notice! As of June 1'st 2015, Apple does no longer allow for X86 based applications to be updated in the App Store. This means that while we continue to provide support for version 1 of the application, we can no longer upgrade the application, even if critical errors occurs on new iOS versions. It is highly recommended to upgrade to the new version of the application, which also provides many new significant features.

Why do my mobile device and online collection not show all titles?

Question:

I am using the Collection Management program on my Windows PC, and when synchronizing my online and mobile collection, the mobile device and online collection is not showing all of my titles. Why is not all of my titles shown?

Answer:

The Online Collection is not an exact copy of your locally stored data, but instead it is a reference on your user account to the titles you have in your collection. The titles must be available on the online service to be available.

There are different situations for which titles are unavailable in the online service:

You have created the title manually, but have not contributed it to the online service. In this situation, you should ensure that the title follows the contribution guidelines, and contribute it to the online service. If the title is of a personal type, such as a wedding video, holiday video or similar, users with 2500 points or more may upload it as a personal title from the "Title" menu. The manually created titles can be identified by a white strikethrough icon in the title list.

You have configured the online collection to NOT show both online and offline titles.

You have configured the online collection to NOT show all groups.

You have titles that have been imported from "DVD Profiler", which was not converted to My Movies profiles. These titles are also only available in your local collection. These titles can be identified by a house icon in the title list.

If you have used My Movies for several years, you may have titles that were originally added from other sources such as Amazon before the My Movies WebService were available. This option where deprecated several years ago, but existing titles remains. These can be identified with a globe icon in the title list.

TV Series which were made available in the My Movies Collection Management program with My Movies 4 is currently not supported by the mobile softwares and online collection, and these will be available only in the Collection Management program.

How does the movie download option function?

Question:

How does the movie download option function in My Movies for iPad, iPhone and Android?

Answer:

The download function allows your iPad, iPhone or Android to connect to your My Movies for Windows server either in-house, or out of the house.

Requirements:

My Movies for iPhone, iPad or Android, running at least version 1.80.

My Movies My Movies for Windows 5.00. For legacy product My Movies Home and Essentials Server Solution, or My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011, running at least version 2.11.

On Windows Home Server 2011 and Windows Server 2012 Essentials, Remote Web Access must be enabled, which is done through the Dashboard, the "Server Settings" button, and the "Remote Web Access" link on the left side of the settings screen.

The movies must be pre-converted to MP4 format using the Video Converter function in the My Movies server software. You can read more about the video converter here: http://kb.mymovies.dk/KnowledgebaseArticle50053.aspx

A wireless network connection is required to avoid high bandwidth usage on mobile plans. This wireless network can be either on your home network, when connected in-house, or a wireless network in another location when connected out of the house. Be aware that the sizes of the converted videos will require a fast internet connection when connecting to a wireless network out of the house.

Steps:

Follow the below steps to prepare your movies for download from your server to your mobile device.

Ensure that you are running at least version 1.80 of My Movies for iPhone, iPad or Android. This information is available in the bottom of the applications settings area.

Ensure that you are running at least version 2.11 of My Movies Home and Server Solution or My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011. This information is available in the dashboard, under the "Add-ins" tab - the version must show 2.1.1.X or higher.

Ensure that "Remote Web Access" is enabled on your server. You can find this option in the dashboard, under the "Server settings" button, and the "Remote Web Access" area.

Ensure that you are logged in with the My Movies user account you use on mobile device on the Windows Home Server. You can find this in the dashboard, under the "My Movies" tab, and the "Settings" link in here, on the opening "General" page.

Configure the video converter in My Movies to your preferences. You can find this in the dashboard, under the "My Movies" tab, and the "Settings" link here, on the "Video Converter" page. You can configure the video converter to convert either one universal format for both iPad or iPhone, which equals Android devices with high or low resolution screens, or you can configure it to convert one format for iPad, and another for iPhone. If you set the video converter to convert two formats, it is important that the primary format is the highest quality (iPad profile) and the secondary format is the lowest quality (iPhone profile), as this allows the mobile device to pick the higest quality video that the device supports for downloading.

Depending on your preference, you can configure the video converter, to automatically add disc copied with the fully automated disc copier to the video converter queue, or you can select from the disc copier tab, or the monitoring tab to add a movie to the queue manually. You can also in the "Video Converter" tab select to add all movies in your library for conversion. Notice! The video converter puts a high pressure on the CPU in your server, and conversion on Atom or other low-spec CPU's servers will take a long time. We recommend to take this into account when purchasing your Windows Home Server.

In My Movies for iPhone, iPad or Android, open the "Settings" page, and click the "Connect to My Movies for WHS 2011" option. You can here provide the IP address of your Windows Home Server on the internal network, or on Android, the name of the server, and you can provide the external address for your server as a secondary option. You can choose to only add or change only the internal or the external address, leaving the other as it is - as an example, depending on your router configuration, you may not be able to connect to the external address of your home server on your internal network. Notice! For users on iPad or iPhone, we recommend configuring a fixed IP adress for your server in your router configuration, avoid that it changes the stores IP address.

Having connected to your Windows Home Server, you will see a "Downloads" tab on your device, which on iPhone or iPad will be hidden behind the "... More" tab icon (you can use the Edit button to drag preferred tabs to the main screen). From the movie details screen, by clicking the "Actions" button, you will now have a "Download" button, which starts the download from the server - the download will be placed under the "Downloads" tab.

Movies downloaded will in the "Actions" button on the movie details page have a "Play" button, or you can click the movie in the list in the "Downloads" section to play it. Be aware that movies on iPhone or iPad is stored in the applications internal memory, and therefore is not available in the "Videos" section on your device, due to access limitations on the platform. Therefore, we recommend that you delete movies that you do not need, to avoid it taking up space on your device.

How can I configure my Windows Media Center PC and My Movies mobile application for Wake On Lan?

Question:

How can I configure my Windows Media Center PC and My Movies mobile application for Wake On Lan?

Answer:

The My Movies mobile applications on iPhone, iPad and Android supports powering on your Windows Media Center PC through Wake On Lan. This guide will help you configure your Windows Media Center PC to be used with Wake On Lan.

Wake On Lan is a technology allowing for your machine to wake when a special network package is sent to the computer. This allows the remote control part of the My Movies mobile applications to both power on and power off your Windows Media Center PC.

Computer Configuration

There are various important points to notice on Wake On Lan:

Your computer must be connected to wired network. You cannot use Wake On Lan through wireless network.

Your computers mainboard and/or network card must support Wake On Lan, which not all do.

Under Windows 7, some computers only supports Wake On Lan when the computer is in standby, while a fully powered off machine cannot be powered on. Under Windows 8, fully powered off machines cannot be powered on. See details here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2776718/en-us

The configuration of Wake On Lan can be complicated. If you have a novice user, we recommend getting an advanced or a professional user to help you with the communication.

Step 1:

Check for a Wake On Lan option in your computers BIOS, and enable it. The BIOS is typically entered by pressing Del, F1 or F2 when starting your machine, before Windows starts, this depends on the computer, and therefore cannot be commonly described. Similar, the location of the Wake On Lan option also differs in different computer BIOSes, and you therefore need to search for it - if your computer does not support Wake On Lan, the configuration in BIOS will not be available.

Step 2:

Start Windows, and open "Device Manager" in Control Panel, and locate your primary network card under "Network adapters", and right click to open properties for the device.

Under the "Advanced" tab, locate the property "Wake on Magic Packet", and make sure that this is set to "Enabled". If you cannot locate this property in the list, your network card does not support Wake On Lan.

Step 3:

Still having the network card properties page open, open the "Power Management" tab. Check the options "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", and the option "Allow this device to wake the computer".

The option "Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer" must also be checked, as any network query against the computer otherwise will cause the computer to wake. Since the My Movies mobile applications sends network commands to query the state of the computer, this would cause the computer to wake in unwanted situations.

Step 4:

If your machine is woken from sleep, the default settings in Windows will by require you to input your account password before entering Windows.

The My Movies mobile application cannot control the PC when on the login screen, and you therefore must open "Power Options" in "Control Panel", and on the left side click the link "Require a password on wake-up". The radiobutton "Require a password (recommended)" must be changed to "Don't require a password".

Step 5:

It is recommended that you configure your Windows Media Center PC to automatically log in when the computer starts, as the My Movies mobile application also here is unable to control the PC until you are logged in.

Run the command "netplwiz", which will open a dialog named "User Accounts". On the first page, uncheck the box "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer.", and press "Apply". You will not be prompted to input the username and password for the account you would like the computer to automatically log into.

Your computer is now configured for Wake On Lan.

Mobile Device Configuration

To use the Wake On Lan feature in the Remote Control part of the My Movies mobile applications, the device must be manually configured. You cannot use automatically detected hosts with Wake On Lan, and Wake On Lan also only works with the Host PC, and cannot be used with Windows Media Center Extenders.

It is recommended that you configure a static IP for your Windows Media Center PC, either through your router by assigning a static IP address for the Mac Address, or by setting a static IP address on the Windows Media Center PC itself, outside of the IP scope that the router is configured to use for DHCP.

Step 1:

Power on your Windows Media Center PC, and make sure that it is not in standby. Windows Media Center is not required to be running during this process.

Step 2:

Open "Settings" on the My Movies mobile application, click the "Remote Control" area, and click "Enable".

Step 3:

Click "Add Player", and select "My Movies for WMC".

Step 4:

Enter the name the device should appear with in the Remote Control section, and enter the IP address of the Windows Media Center PC in the "IP Address" box.

Step 5:

Click on the "Enable" checkbox under "Wake On Lan". It is important that you do not check this until you have entered the IP address of the Windows Media Center PC, as the mobile application in most situations can detect the Mac Address of the computer.

Step 6:

If the Mac Address is not automatically filled in, you must enter the Mac Address in the format "XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX". You can typically determine the device Mac address in your router, otherwise, you can run "cmd" on your computer, and type "ipconfig /all" where you can locate your network adapter, and locate it's Mac address.

Step 7:

You can optionally configure the timeout for the for the My Movies mobile application to wait for your machine to start before it threats the lack of response as a lost connection. The default is 120 seconds, and if your computer takes longer than this to start up and be ready, you must increase this value.

The My Movies mobile application can now be used to power on and off your Windows Media Center PC through Wake On Lan.

How do I download my collection from iPhone, iPad, Android or Windows Phone to Collection Management?

Question:

I have my movie collection in My Movies for iPhone, iPad, Android or Windows Phone, and would like to make my collection available in the My Movies Collection Management program for Windows. How can I do that?

Answer:

You cannot change the title or sort title on the general profile as this profile is shared between all useres, but you can overwrite them with a personal title or sort title, which when present will be used instead of these.

On My Movies for iPhone, iPad or Android, you can add this by pressing the "Show More" in the "Personal Data" area of the movie details page, and change the "Title" and "Sort Title" to what you prefer.

In My Movies for Windows Phone, you can open the menu from the movie details page, and select "Edit Personal Data", and change the "Title" and "Sort Title" to what you prefer.

In My Movies for Mac OS X, you can add this by clicking the "Personal" tab of the title editor and change the "Title" and "Sort Title" to what you prefer.

In My Movies Collection Management for Windows, you can click the "Personal Data" editing button in the bottom of the title editing screen, and change "Title" and "Sort Title" to what you prefer.

The personal title and sort title are synchronized to the online servers for your collection, which means that it will transfer between all the devices where you are using your My Movies user account, and therefore act as global change for your collection.

Background:

When using My Movies, titles added to your collection, with the exception of titles created manually are profiles shared between all users of the online service - this ensures that your profiles are always kept up to date with the latest data, and this method is also what allows you to use your collection on multiple devices and automatically synchronize data between clients.

This also means that data changes on the global profile affects not only yourself, but all users having the same title in their collection, which is why you cannot change the data on the profiles from the mobile devices, and why changes contributed from the Windows or Mac software strictly must follow the contribution guidelines.

How the titles are sorted, and how the movie title is presented can however be preferred individually by each user, where some users prefers to refer to the "James Bond / 007" movies as "James Bond: Quantom of Solance", others as "007: Quantom of Solance" and some only as "Quantom of Solance", therefore you can overwrite the title and sort title with the personal titles like this.

We believe that with that the exception of titles, the data on a retail title is not something that users should have personal preferences over - either the data is correct, or the data is incorrect. If the data is incorrect, it should be corrected on the global profile, and not only on the profile in your collection, which is why you can report incorrect data to our moderators, or contribute changes to the profiles in My Movies for Mac OS X or My Movies Collection Management for Windows, either to correct incorrect data, or to improve the data on the profile in general.

How can I create a Compatible Remote Bridge for a Dune media player?

Question:

How can I create a 'Compatible Remote Bridge' for a Dune media player, to intercept remote events, allowing for light, curtain or device power controls?

Answer:

The My Movies mobile applications in their remote control functionalities supports a device type called 'Compatible Remote Bridge', which is a device type created to allow a third party control server or the My Movies for Windows software packages (available from My Movies for Windows Media Center and My Movies Collection Management 4.06 Pre Release 3 or My Movies Home and Essentials Server Solution 2.14 Pre Release 3) to act as a middle station for remote commands send by the mobile applications.

This means that the mobile application connects to the 'Compatible Remote Bridge' device, which can provide informations about one or more players that can be controlled through the bridge. The mobile application then sends the commands to the bridge, which forwards the command to the respective player, and sends the response from the player back to the mobile application. For the user, this looks exactly as if the mobile application was connected directly to the player, but it allows the bridge to react on certain button presses, allowing it to pass controls such as volume controls to a receiver or a TV, instead of to the player, or, it allows for the bridge to capture playback events, to control lights or curtains.

The My Movies Collection Management, My Movies for Windows Media Center and My Movies Home and Essentials Server Solution software packages can all function as a remote bridge, allowing for it's build-in event handling functionality to pass volume controls to the supported receivers and television sets, but partners can also implement a remote bridge for their own solutions.

The remote bridge currently supports Dune media players only, but is planned to be extended in the future. The documentation here therefore focuses on how to create a bridge for the Dune player.

Through "Settings", "Remote Control" in the My Movies mobile applications, the user enables the remote control functionality, and select to add a player. In the list of players, the user selects "Compatible Remote Bridge", which allows the user to add a name for the bridge, and the IP address for the bridge. The name in this relation is used only to be able to identify the bridge in the mobile application in case the user would like to remove it later. The mobile application now connects to the IP address on port 51414, which is currently a fixed port that the bridge must operate on - it is planned that the port can be configured in the future. Notice also that the port 51414 is used by the My Movies software packages, meaning that third party bridges cannot currently operate on the same computer that holds a My Movies for Windows installation.

Notice! We will throughout the examples use the IP address "192.168.1.100" as example of the IP address of the remote bridge. The IP address can be any IP address on the network, which the remote bridge operates on.

Initially, the mobile application sends the following to the remote bridge:

http://192.168.1.100:51414/?command=listremotebridgedevices

The response from the bridge must be an XML document, with the following layout:

<Response status="ok">

  <Device Type="DuneFull" Name="Zone or Player Name"/>

</Response>

There can be multiple "Device" elements in the response. The options for Type is currently "DuneFull", "DuneMedium" or "DuneSimple", where full, medium or simple is the button layout of the device. Please try to connect a mobile application directly to a Dune player to see the differences in layout between the full, medium and simple layouts.

The listed devices will now become available in the "Remote" area of the mobile application. The mobile application send the following command when the user selects a player to control:

http://192.168.1.100:51414/?command=sendremotebridgedevicecommand&device=Zone%20or%20Player%20Name&commandstring=cmd%3Dstatus

The bridge now must connect to the device, and send the command included in the "commandstring" parameter. The "commandstring" parameter is URL encoded, meaning that "cmd%3Dstatus" is decoded to "cmd=status". The bridge then sends back the response from the device in the following way:

<Response status="ok" custombuttons="False">

    <command_result>

        <param name="protocol_version" value="3"/>

        <param name="player_state" value="standby"/>

    </command_result>

</Response>

The "Response" node of the response is created by the bridge, where the "command_result" XML content of the node is the direct reply from the Dune player. If the "commandstring" command is "cmd=status", which is the initial player status request, the bridge must include the attribute "custombuttons" on the Response node - this instructs the mobile application if the bridge has custom buttons for the device. If the parameter "custombuttons" is "True", the mobile application sends the following command:

http://192.168.1.100:51414/?command=listcustombuttons&device=Zone%20or%20Player%20Name

The bridge device must respond with the custom buttons it has for the device in the following form:

<Response status="ok">

    <Button Name="Button1" Label="Lights On" Group="Lights">

    <Button Name="Button2" Label="Lights Off" Group="Lights">

</Response>

The attribute "Name" contains the internal name of the button, which is also the button name that the mobile application will send to the bridge when the button is pressed. The "Label" attribute contains the label displayed below the button on the mobile application, while the "Group" attribute is not yet supported, it's intention is that you can avoid all buttons to be played in one big list on the layout, but you instead can let the mobile application show each button group separately, which as one group for lights, and another group for curtains.

Once a custom button is pressed, the mobile application sends the following command to the bridge:

http://192.168.1.100:51414/?command=sendcustombutton&device=Zone%20or%20Player%20Name&button=Button1

The bridge then must reply in the following form:

<Response status="ok"></Response>

or

<Response status="failed">The button press can result in a message displayed to the user if the press failed, which is a clear text written in the response node.</Response>

Each time a user presses a button on the remote control, the button press is sent to the bridge, which sends it to the Dune, and sends back the response from the Dune to the mobile application.

It is recommended to always return the direct response from the Dune player, but there are also situations where the command is intercepted by the bridge, and never send to the Dune player, in situations such as volume control commands, in which case the bridge simply responds with:

<Response status="ok"></Response>

If you prefer to develop your own remote bridge device, or if you have an always available server running one of the My Movies for Windows software options, and therefore prefer to use My Movies for Windows as the bridge is up to you.

Should you choose to use My Movies as bridge device, you can instead create Event Handler plug-in DLL files to react to the events that My Movies traps in the communication with the Dune player.

Technically, the mobile applications will send the commands "status", "launch_media_url" and "ir_code" to the Dune, meaning that all button events can be intercepted by catching one of these parameters. The individual button codes is listed in the Dune IP Control documentation.

Can I import from my current movie collection into My Movies?

Question:

I currently have my movie collection in a different application (such as DVD Profiler, Collectorz, Delicius Library, DVDPedia or similar), or in a text file, can I import my collection into My Movies for Mac OS X, iPhone, iPad, Android or Windows Phone?

Answer:

Users of DVD Profiler 3, Delicius Library 2, Collectorz Movie Collector or DVDPedia can convert their current collection though the My Movies Importer on https://import.mymovies.dk/.

Due to the fact that My Movies does not hold your specific data, but instead holds references into general profiles shared between all users in our system, the importer does not import the specific title data from your current application, but instead uses unique references such as barcode or IMDB id's to match your existing profiles up against the My Movies online service.

Your personal data, such as notes, tags, purchase details and similar will be imported into the personal data part of your collection, and will therefore be maintained. Global data on such as titles, descriptions, covers and similar will be replaced by the corresponding data in the My Movies online service, which is most situations often will give you more detailed and accurate data than available in your current application.

Once the importer have run, you will receive an e-mail with the results, as well as see the results on your screen. Users of My Movies for Mac OS X, iPhone, iPad, Android or Windows Phone simply log onto their application using the same user account they imported their collection into, and synchronize the collection. Users of My Movies Collection Management for Windows must select "Synchronize Online and Mobile Collection" in the "WebService" menu, and select to download their collection from the servers.

Users of other applications that is currently not supported by the My Movies Importer can request support for their current application by contacting us on support@mymovies.dk, but notice that we can only import from applications who's exported data provides a unique reference such as barcode or IMDB id, as matching profiles against a simple title would give many incorrect matches.

If you are having any problems with the My Movies importer, please contact us on support@mymovies.dk.

Notice! The applications on iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows Phone all have built-in barcode scanning functions with a multi-scan functionality. Scanning even large collections with the multi-scan functionality is resonable fast, and for users with current applications that the importer cannot support, we recommend that you re-add your collection into My Movies using this method.

Why is an account required to use the application?

Question:

I would like to use My Movies for iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone or Mac OS X, but why is a user account required?

Answer:

The reason for the requirement of a user account is that the application although functioning as a standalone product is also part of a product suite, where your movie collection can be shared between multiple application.

To be able to give you easy access to the same movie collection both from multiple clients and other products in our suite, your movie collection is stored both on your device or devices, as well as on our online servers as references to the title profiles on our service. This approch does not mean that you are required to be always online with your phone to use the software - the data is also stored locally on the device, and operates well, even when you are not online.

This shared collection means that you at any time can install any of the other applications in the My Movies product suite, and be able to manage your collection from these, even though you added your titles from a different client.

The overall benefit of having a user account, and having your movie collection stored for this account, rather than on individual devices only is that you will have access to the same unified movie collection from multiple devices and products at the same time, without ever having to consider data imports, exports or backups.

How can I force a complete re-sync with the online servers?

Question:

The collection on my Android, iPhone or iPad mobile device appears to be missing some titles or cover art, which is available in my Online Collection. How can I completely re-synchronize with the online servers?

Answer:

Users on iPhone and iPad should remove the application from their device and re-add it. You can remove the application by holding your finger down on the icon, and click the X in the upper right cover when the icons start to shake. Having done that, you can re-install the application from the App Store - when using the same iTunes account, you will not pay for the application a second time, even if the button writes "Buy now".
