How can I fully uninstall My Movies?

Question:

How can I fully uninstall My Movies, removing all configuration, my database and the SQL Server database instance?

Answer:

By default, My Movies keeps your settings including configuration settings and database when uninstalling, which means it will leave the "MYMOVIES" SQL Server instance.

You must initially uninstall My Movies through Add/Remote programs in Control Panel.

How can I contribute or report a title missing, when another title with the same barcode already exists?

Question:

I have a title that I would like to contribute or report as a missing title, but I receive the message "Another title already exists with that barcode in that country". How can I add or report my title?

Answer:

The first thing you must to is to confirm if your title is actually a different title from the one already in the system - you can do this by searching for the barcode in the add title dialog. If your title is not different than the one already in the system, you should remove your own title and add the one that already exists in the system instead.

If your title differs from the one already in the system, you have what we call a duplicate title - such duplicate titles are rare, and to avoid users creating the same title in the service multiple times, they can only be added to the system by our staff.

To have a duplicate title created, you must send the following information to support@mymovies.dk:

- Barcode
- Title
- Type (DVD, Blu-ray or HD DVD)
- Country
- Photo of front cover
- Photo of back cover

The photos must be a picture taken with a camera or camera phone and must show the barcode visible. This is used to confirm the existance of the title - you may not send ONLY a cover scan, as it can be difficult for our staff to confirm if such are custom graphics or actual scans, but if you send the camera photos as evidence, you may also include scanned covers to be added to the created duplicate.

You will receive an e-mail when we have created the title in the system, and you can then remove your existing title from your collection, and add the one created by our staff, and optionally add more data to the created profile to improve it's complete percentage and earn contribution points.

Notice! Since April 2021, we are allowing duplicate title creations also if your title IS the same as the one in the service, with the exact same country and barcode, and for the same movie or tv series/season, but your version have had a cover re-design, or, if the existing profile lists the outer or inner cover of a title with a slip cover, and you would like the opposite listed. The requirement to have a duplicate created due to a different cover design is that the data on the existing profile must be complete, to avoid duplicating incomplete data - the existing profile must contain both a front and back cover (as it otherwise could contain a replacement cover), and, you can provide a full front and back cover scan of the cover design you have.

Be aware that if a title contains only a front cover, this may be a replacement cover, if the full and correct cover have not been available - in such situation, a duplicate is not needed, as you may simply contribute your covers to the profile, as long as the barcode matches the profile - your covers are expected to be the correct ones for the title, over the replacement front cover.

Can I get data from the local My Movies database to a third party application?

Answer:

The My Movies Remote Server API is available to professionals in My Movies, and to users with 2500 points on their user accounts. Be aware that professionals supplying solutions to customers must be part of our installer program - purchasing points for a user account grants the user access to support, but a professional supplier not part of our installer program cannot receive support.

Before integrating the API into your application, you must contact us on support@mymovies.dk, to ensure that we can send you any notices of service or API changes or similar. If there are changes to API functions, they are made so that existing applications will be able to continue their operations.

Important:

With the release of My Movies 5, the Remote Server API have been deprecated for end-users, and is only be available for our professional customers through our installer program.

Notice:

The API is available in all installations of My Movies 5, and is for legacy usage also available in My Movies Home and Essentials Server Solution (previously My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011) 2.11 or later, or My Movies for Windows Media Center or My Movies Collection Management for Windows 4.03 or later on Windows 7 or 8. The API is not supported on Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Availability:

The API is made available through the tray application in My Movies for Media Center and through the built-in service on My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011.

Once started, the API can be accessed through http://127.0.0.1:51414/. The port 51414 is opened in the Windows Firewall when My Movies is installed, however notice that it is registered to be opened on "Home Network" or "Work Networks" only, which means that it is not open if the machine is configured to be on a public network. Similar, if a third party firewall or security software is used on the Host PC, the port must be opened manually.

The remote server advertises itself through Apple Bonjour services, with the type id "_mymoviesdata._tcp", including the name of the machine and the port number of the service. The name of the machine can be changed through the API itself. Notice that Bonjour advertising is available only when Bonjour Printing services is installed on the host machine, a software that is not automatically installed with My Movies.

Commands can be sent to the API such as http://127.0.0.1:51414/?command=SendKey&key=Up&username=user&password=pass.

The following informations must be sent with all requests:

"command". This specifies the command you would like to call.

"username" (alternative to apikey). This is the users username as specified in your application settings, which must match the username used in My Movies on the Host PC. The requirement of this ensures that the local data API is not fully open.

"password" (alternative to apikey). This is the users password as specified in your application settings, which must match the password used in My Movies on the Host PC. The requirement of this ensures that the local data API is not fully open.

"apikey" (alternative to username/password). If you do not want the users to log into your remote application with their My Movies user account, you can as an alternative ask them to enter an API key. This is typically used by custom installer installations where a user account is optional. The API key, which is a Unique generated string can be found in "Collection Management", "Tools", "Options", "Remote Control Server" in My Movies for Windows, or in "Remote Control Server" settings in the My Movies Home and Essentials Server Solution software package.

The API either returns with an XML file or the actual file that was requested. In case of an xml file, it will contain a response node, such as:

<Response status="failed">Message from server.</Response>

The server can return the following statuses:

"ok". The command was received and processed as expected. This is the default response. Depending on the command, the Response node may contain either XML or clear text inside for the result.
"failed". The command failed for one or more reasons. The reason is included as clear text inside the Response node.

There can be other return values on specific commands, which will be documented with the command.

The following API commands are available (the parameters mentioned are additional to the three mentioned above):

Ping - This command returns "pong", and can be used to check if the service is available.

Version - This command returns the version of the My Movies application on the Host PC. This can be used if API commands are added in later versions, and your application requires a specific version. The version is returned in the format "W.X.Y.Z", where "W" specifies the major version, "X" the first digit of the minor version, "Y" the second digit of the minor version, and "Z" specifies the Pre Release version, or build number on released versions. A "Z" version below 100 is a "Pre Release" version, with 1 being "Pre Release 1", 2 being "Pre Release 2" and so on. A "Z" version of "100" or higher indicates a final release version, with 100 being the initial final release, 102 being a "Build 2" and so on. As an example "4.0.2.100" specifies a final "4.02" version, where "4.0.3.2" specifies "4.03 Pre Release 2".

Rename (name) - Renames the instance name advertised through Bonjour, which means that the default machine name can be changed to "Livingroom" or similar.

ResetName - Resets the instance name advertised through Bonjour to it's default value, which is the machine name.

GetTitleList (sortby, sortdirection, fieldlist, browsinginterface, maxparentallevel, maxparentaltvlevel, includeunrated, parentalcategoryrestrict, parentalcategoryexclude, parentalcategoryinclude, hidechilditems, filterby, filtervalue) - Returns a list of the titles that are in the users collection.

The optional parameter "sortby" (Added in 4.05 Build 5) can take values:

If the paramter "sortby" is not supplied, the XML will be sorted by the collection number.

The software has an option to hide certain groups, like titles in wish-list from the browsing interface, which are applied if you send the value 'true' for this parameter. The default is 'false'.

The optional parameter "maxparentallevel" and "maxparentaltvlevel" (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) defines a maximum parental control level to return titles for as a numeric value from 0 to 8, where 8 (default) is the highest value. The "maxparentaltvlevel" applies to titles using TV rating values, while "maxparentallevel" applies to all other titles. The parental control levels maps to different values in different countries - contact us for a detailed list.

The optional parameter "includeunrated" (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) is a true/false value, which determines if titles that either does not have a rating set, or is rated "Unrated" should be returned. The default value is 'true'.

The optional parameter "parentalcategoryrestrict" (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) is a numeric value containing a the id of a category to restrict the result set to. If supplied, only titles contained in this category will be returned, except if the "parentalcategoryinclude" option is supplied, in which case titles in this category will be returned as well. The intended use for this parameter is in relation to parental control functions, where devices in kids rooms might by default be limited to show only movies in a "Children" category.

The optional parameter "parentalcategoryexclude" (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) is a numeric value containing the id of a category to exclude from the result set, no matter if other parental control parameters applies. An example of the usage of this parameter could be if a collection contains adult titles, but the user do not wish to block "Unrated" or titles with high ratings in general, then they can configure parental controls to always block titles that is in an "Adult" category.

The optional parameter "parentalcategoryinclude" (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) is a numeric value containing the id of a category to include in the result set, no matter if other parental control parameters applies. An example of the usage of this parameter could be if parental controls is set to block "Unrated" titles, you can select to include titles in a "Children" category, even if titles in that category is listed as "Unrated".

The optional parameter "hidechilditems" (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) is a true/false value, which determines if titles in box set containers should be excluded from the result set. If you are building a browsing interface, it is recommended to pass this parameter as 'true' and instead let the user open the box set container titles to see content of it. If you pass this parameter as 'true', the result set will contain an additional node with the child title count, allowing you to determine which items that should be listed as box sets, and therefore could be opened by the user. Once the user opens a box set container, use the "filterby" and "filtervalue" parameters to filter by the selected box set. The default value is 'false'.

The optional parameters "filterby" and "filtervalue" (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) allows you to filter the result set by various parameters:

If "filterby" is set to "boxset", you can include a numeric id of a parent title to filter by in the "filtervalue" parameter.
If "filterby" is set to "category", you can include a numeric id of a category to filter by in the "filtervalue" parameter.
If "filterby" is set to "genre", you can include a numeric id of a genre, or the string based internal name of a genre in the "filtervalue" parameter.
If "filterby" is set to "filter", you can include a numeric id of a stored filter to filter by in the "filtervalue" parameter.
If "filterby" is set to "online", only titles that are stored online (on storage such as harddrives or NAS devices) is returned.
If "filterby" is set to "offline", only titles that are not pointed to online storage paths (such as harddrives or NAS devices) is returned.

The returned XML will always include id and recordchanged values. If the "fieldlist" parameter is not supplied, additionally localtitle and originaltitle values is automatically included.

GetCollection (listtype, owned, tvseriesondiscsasdiscs, sortby, sortdirection, fieldlist, browsinginterface, maxparentallevel, maxparentaltvlevel, includeunrated, parentalcategoryrestrict, parentalcategoryexclude, parentalcategoryinclude, hidechilditems, filterby, filtervalue) - (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) - Returns a list of elements in users collection. Designed for browsing interfaces.

The required parameter "listtype" can take values "Movies", "TVSeries" or "Media" (default), indicating if you want only movie items, tv series items or all media returned.

The optional parameter "owned" is a true/false values that specifies if you would like to show only TV Series that have episodes that the user has in their collection, in which case the "owned" parameter is provided as "true" (default). If you would like to return all TV Series, no matter if it contains episodes that the user owns, this parameter should be provided as "false".

The optional parameter "tvseriesondiscsasdiscs" can take a true/false value, which defines if disc titles (DVD or Blu-ray) which contains known TV Series and TV Episode structures should be returned as disc titles, or if they should be returned as TV Series.

GetTVSeriesList (owned, sortby, sortdirection, fieldlist, browsinginterface, maxparentaltvlevel, includeunrated, parentalcategoryrestrict, parentalcategoryexclude, parentalcategoryinclude, filterby, filtervalue) - (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) - Returns a list of the TV Series that are in the users collection.

The optional parameter "owned" is a true/false values that specifies if you would like to show only series that have episodes that the user has in their collection, in which case the "owned" parameter is provided as "true" (default). If you would like to return all series, no matter if it contains episodes that the user owns, this parameter should be provided as "false".

The optional parameter "owned" is a true/false values that specifies if you would like to show only seasons that have episodes that the user has in their collection, in which case the "owned" parameter is provided as "true" (default). If you would like to return all seasons, no matter if it contains episodes that the user owns, this parameter should be provided as "false".

The returned XML will include season number, episodeCount, lastEpisodeChange and lastEpisodePersonalChange values. There is not any name for a season, as it is to be listed in interfaces as "Season X" where X is the season number. If a browsing interface would like to display an "All Seasons" items, this must be added as a virtual item by the browsing interface itself.

GetTVEpisodeList (series, owned, sortby, sortdirection, fieldlist, filterby, filtervalue) - (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) - Returns a list of the TV Series that are in the users collection.

The required parameter "series" specifies the TV Series guid to return episodes for.

The optional parameter "owned" is a true/false values that specifies if you would like to show only series that have episodes that the user has in their collection, in which case the "owned" parameter is provided as "true" (default). GetLatestChange - (Legacy as of 4.06 Pre Release 5, replaced with GetCollectionChanges) - Returns the latest date a title was changed in or added to the users collection. It also returns a the number of titles in the users collection. Both entries should be used to determine changes, as a deleted title will not change the date of the last changed title.

GetCollectionChanges - (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) - Returns a list of latest change dates to all elements in the system, and also includes an element count. Both entries should be used to determine changes, as a deleted elements will not change the date of the last changed title.

GetGenres - (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) Returns a list of genres. The list only returns genres that are used on one or more titles in the collection.

GetCategories - (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) Returns a list of categories. The list only returns categories that are used on one or more titles in the collection.

GetFilters - (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) Returns a list of stored filters.

GetTitle (id, excludedisctitles) - Returns a document with the full overview of a title in the users collection. The optional parameter "excludedisctitles" (Added in 4.05 Build 5) with possible values true or false excludes titles and chapter structures of discs, to be able to load a smaller XML documents, as these can include much data.

GetTVSeries (guid) - Returns a document with the full overview of a tv series in the users collection.

GetMovie (guid) - Returns a document with the full overview of a movie in the users collection.

GetMovieCollection (guid) - Returns a document with the full overview of a movie collection in the users collection.

GetTitlePersonalData (id, excludedisctitles) (Added in 4.06 Build 3) - Returns a document with the personal data of a title in the users collection.

GetTitleAndPersonalData (id, excludedisctitles) (Added in 4.06 Build 3) - Returns a document that combines the GetTitle and GetTitlePersonalData calls.

GetTitleTrailers (id, country, includeenglish) - (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) Returns one or more trailers for the title. If the user have pointed to a local trailer in his collection, the path to this is supplied, however due to lack of credentials, this often cannot be used by non-Windows based environments. If the user has a "Trailer" or "Trailers" folder in the folder path of the title, a list trailer files for this path is returned, but also due to lack of credentials, often cannot be used by non-Windows based environments. Last, there will be an "OnlineTrailer" returned, which is recommended to use.

The parameter "id" takes an integer value of the title to return trailer(s) for.

The parameter "country" (optional) takes a string value of the country to return an online trailer for. The possible values are "Denmark", "Finland", "France", "Germany", "Italy", "Spain", "Sweden", "Switzerland", "The Netherlands", "United Kingdom". If the users country is either not known, or is not in the list of possible countries, it is recommended to use "United Kingdom".

The parameter "includeenglish" is a true (default) / false value which instructs to include English language trailers if trailers for the country specified with the "country" parameter was not found.

GetTitlePlayOptionsForDune (id) - Returns a list of play options that can be passed to the Dune players IP command API. The parameter "id" takes an integer value of the title to return the play path for.

GetEpisodePlayOptionsForDune (id) - (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) Returns a play option for the episode that can be passed to the Dune players IP command API. The parameter "id" takes the guid of the episode to return the play path for.

GetTitleFrontCover (id) - (Legacy as of 4.06 Pre Release 5, replaced with GetImage) - Returns the front cover image for the title with the id.

GetTitleBackCover (id) - (Legacy as of 4.06 Pre Release 5, replaced with GetImage) - Returns the back cover image for the title with the id.

GetTitleFrontThumbnail (id) - (Legacy as of 4.06 Pre Release 5, replaced with GetImage) - Returns the front cover thumbnail image for the title with the id.

GetTitleBackThumbnail (id) - (Legacy as of 4.06 Pre Release 5, replaced with GetImage) - Returns the back cover thumbnail image for the title with the id.

GetTitleBackdrop (id) - (Legacy as of 4.06 Pre Release 5, replaced by GetImage) - Returns the backdrop image for the title with the id.

GetImage (id, type, filterby, filtervalue) - (Added in 4.06 Pre Release 5) - Returns the an image for the element with the guid specified.

Why does my collection numbers and title counts differ?

Answer:

You will often see that the collection numbers on the titles in your collection differs from the title count numbers for the collection.

Collection numbers are not in any way related to a title count, but is designed to be equivalent to a number sticker placed on each title in the collection - once a title gets a collection number, it keeps that collection number, unless you manually change it, or use a reset collection numbers function. This means that if you have a collection of 3 titles, with collection numbers 1, 2 and 3 in your collection, and you for some reason remove the title with collection number 2, because of a sale or damage, you will have collection numbers 1 and 3, but will have a title count of 2.

This way, you can be sure that a certain title will always have the same number, no matter what happens to other titles in the collection - if you consider these equivalent to a sticker, you also would not move the stickers of 299 titles if you have a collection of 300 titles and sell title number 1.

Since collection numbers are part of personal data on the titles, and not a virtual on-the-fly calculated number, the applications does not have an option to handle collection numbers differently, such as a functionality where all collection numbers shift, should you remove a title from the collection, because it would mean that all titles with a collection number higher than the one you remove would have to be changed, in some cases, for users with many titles, meaning thousands of titles which has to be changed and updated in sync between the server and the client, as well as any other client.

There is on latest versions of all clients a "Reset collection numbers" function, which will reset the collection numbers based on the current selected sorting on the client - this functionality will change all the titles, and the process can take some time - it is not intended that you use this function to re-number your collection frequently, but it does give you an option to have the collection numbers reset, perhaps because you would like them set depending on a different sorting, or because you made a larger clean-up in your collection.

How can I contribute or report a title missing, when the barcode is on a sticker?

I have a title that I would like to contribute or report as a missing title, but the barcode is on a sticker. How can I add or report my title?

Answer:

Barcodes on stickers are in almost all situations store specific stickers, which can either be generally used for a title by a store chain, or it can be used for specific campaigns.

Because barcodes on stickers are not considered original barcodes, we do not allow titles to be created or reported missing used these store specific barcodes on stickers.

However, as many of these stickers are used across some big store chains, we would like to be able to track the barcodes anyways, to allow it to looked up when scanning, by matching the barcode on the sticker to the original barcode of the title, and presenting the title with the original barcode, when the sticker is scanned.

We therefore request that you contact us with the following information to support@mymovies.dk:

- Barcode on sticker

- Original barcode on the cover itself
- Title
- Type (DVD, Blu-ray or HD DVD)
- Country
- Photo of back cover showing the sticker, or the sticker removed and placed next to the back cover. The sticker does not need to be in perfect shape - we just need be able to confirm it.

The photos must be a picture taken with a camera or camera phone and must show the barcode visible. This is used to confirm the existence of the sticker barcode and the original barcode - you may not send a cover scan, as it can be difficult for our staff to confirm if such are custom graphics or actual scans.

Why can't I import my CSV file with the importer?

The application I am currently using can export my collection to a CSV file, why can't I import this file?

Answer:

The option to import from a CSV file will work only when the CSV file contains data specifically created for the importer.

"CSV" stands for "Comma Separated Values", which means that this is simply a file containing any sort of data, separated by comma. Therefore, a CSV file is not a pre-specified universal format for exporting your movie collection, but the individual applications own choice of which data to export, and in which order.

The import function recognises a number of applications that can be selected directly, where the importer are aware which fields to expect in the supplied file, but when using the generic CSV or file import option, the supplied file cannot just be any CSV file from any application, it must specifically be a file containing the data that the importer expects.

Since My Movies does not simply track limited typed in data for your titles, but instead lets you add shared and detailed profiles from our online service to your collection, when you import from another application, we are not simply importing your data, but the importer will match your existing data to profiles in our service. Therefore, the CSV file supplied must specifically contain 12 or 13 digit UPC or EAN barcodes (recommended) (which can link directly to the unique disc title profile) or alternatively IMDB id's such as (tt0000000) (which can only link to the generic movie profile), as these are the only informations we can use to determine which title in your collection that matches which title in our service.

Besides containing these barcodes or imdb ids, the file must specifically include them in the first column of the file, as the importer needs to know where to look for them - when you simply export a CSV file from the application you are currently using, some of the applications does not even hold the option to export barcodes or imdb ids, where others have the information places somewhere in the file where the importer cannot locate them.

Therefore, your CSV file must be imported into an application such as Excel, and you can from there create a new file with only one column, containing either barcodes, or IMDB ids, and you can then supply this file to the importer.

Some applications may not export barcodes or imdb ids, but will simply export a list of titles - you cannot import from such application, as titles can be typed differently, and it becomes much too uncertain that the titles you are importing are also the titles you end up with, and if you cannot be sure of this, there is not much value in an import. If you cannot import from your existing application due to lack of data in it, we recommend that you try to evaluate our batch scanning option, by setting the barcode scanner to multi-scanning, as it might be a lot faster than you think to start over.

Why do my mobile device and online collection not show all titles?

I am using the Collection Management program on my Windows PC, and when synchronizing my online and mobile collection, the mobile device and online collection is not showing all of my titles. Why is not all of my titles shown?

Answer:

The Online Collection is not an exact copy of your locally stored data, but instead it is a reference on your user account to the titles you have in your collection. The titles must be available on the online service to be available.

There are different situations for which titles are unavailable in the online service:

You have created the title manually, but have not contributed it to the online service. In this situation, you should ensure that the title follows the contribution guidelines, and contribute it to the online service. If the title is of a personal type, such as a wedding video, holiday video or similar, users with 2500 points or more may upload it as a personal title from the "Title" menu. The manually created titles can be identified by a white strikethrough icon in the title list.
You have configured the online collection to NOT show both online and offline titles.
You have configured the online collection to NOT show all groups.
You have titles that have been imported from "DVD Profiler", which was not converted to My Movies profiles. These titles are also only available in your local collection. These titles can be identified by a house icon in the title list.
If you have used My Movies for several years, you may have titles that were originally added from other sources such as Amazon before the My Movies WebService were available. This option where deprecated several years ago, but existing titles remains. These can be identified with a globe icon in the title list.
TV Series which were made available in the My Movies Collection Management program with My Movies 4 is currently not supported by the mobile softwares and online collection, and these will be available only in the Collection Management program.

The download function allows your iPad, iPhone or Android to connect to your My Movies for Windows server either in-house, or out of the house.

Requirements:

My Movies for iPhone, iPad or Android, running at least version 1.80.
My Movies My Movies for Windows 5.00. For legacy product My Movies Home and Essentials Server Solution, or My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011, running at least version 2.11.
On Windows Home Server 2011 and Windows Server 2012 Essentials, Remote Web Access must be enabled, which is done through the Dashboard, the "Server Settings" button, and the "Remote Web Access" link on the left side of the settings screen.
The movies must be pre-converted to MP4 format using the Video Converter function in the My Movies server software. You can read more about the video converter here: http://kb.mymovies.dk/KnowledgebaseArticle50053.aspx
A wireless network connection is required to avoid high bandwidth usage on mobile plans. This wireless network can be either on your home network, when connected in-house, or a wireless network in another location when connected out of the house. Be aware that the sizes of the converted videos will require a fast internet connection when connecting to a wireless network out of the house.

Steps:

Follow the below steps to prepare your movies for download from your server to your mobile device.

Ensure that you are running at least version 1.80 of My Movies for iPhone, iPad or Android. This information is available in the bottom of the applications settings area.
Ensure that you are running at least version 2.11 of My Movies Home and Server Solution or My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011. This information is available in the dashboard, under the "Add-ins" tab - the version must show 2.1.1.X or higher.
Ensure that "Remote Web Access" is enabled on your server. You can find this option in the dashboard, under the "Server settings" button, and the "Remote Web Access" area.
Ensure that you are logged in with the My Movies user account you use on mobile device on the Windows Home Server. You can find this in the dashboard, under the "My Movies" tab, and the "Settings" link in here, on the opening "General" page.
Configure the video converter in My Movies to your preferences. You can find this in the dashboard, under the "My Movies" tab, and the "Settings" link here, on the "Video Converter" page. You can configure the video converter to convert either one universal format for both iPad or iPhone, which equals Android devices with high or low resolution screens, or you can configure it to convert one format for iPad, and another for iPhone. If you set the video converter to convert two formats, it is important that the primary format is the highest quality (iPad profile) and the secondary format is the lowest quality (iPhone profile), as this allows the mobile device to pick the higest quality video that the device supports for downloading.
Depending on your preference, you can configure the video converter, to automatically add disc copied with the fully automated disc copier to the video converter queue, or you can select from the disc copier tab, or the monitoring tab to add a movie to the queue manually. You can also in the "Video Converter" tab select to add all movies in your library for conversion. Notice! The video converter puts a high pressure on the CPU in your server, and conversion on Atom or other low-spec CPU's servers will take a long time. We recommend to take this into account when purchasing your Windows Home Server.
In My Movies for iPhone, iPad or Android, open the "Settings" page, and click the "Connect to My Movies for WHS 2011" option. You can here provide the IP address of your Windows Home Server on the internal network, or on Android, the name of the server, and you can provide the external address for your server as a secondary option. You can choose to only add or change only the internal or the external address, leaving the other as it is - as an example, depending on your router configuration, you may not be able to connect to the external address of your home server on your internal network. Notice! For users on iPad or iPhone, we recommend configuring a fixed IP adress for your server in your router configuration, avoid that it changes the stores IP address.
Having connected to your Windows Home Server, you will see a "Downloads" tab on your device, which on iPhone or iPad will be hidden behind the "... More" tab icon (you can use the Edit button to drag preferred tabs to the main screen). From the movie details screen, by clicking the "Actions" button, you will now have a "Download" button, which starts the download from the server - the download will be placed under the "Downloads" tab.
Movies downloaded will in the "Actions" button on the movie details page have a "Play" button, or you can click the movie in the list in the "Downloads" section to play it. Be aware that movies on iPhone or iPad is stored in the applications internal memory, and therefore is not available in the "Videos" section on your device, due to access limitations on the platform. Therefore, we recommend that you delete movies that you do not need, to avoid it taking up space on your device.

The My Movies mobile applications on iPhone, iPad and Android supports powering on your Windows Media Center PC through Wake On Lan. This guide will help you configure your Windows Media Center PC to be used with Wake On Lan.

Wake On Lan is a technology allowing for your machine to wake when a special network package is sent to the computer. This allows the remote control part of the My Movies mobile applications to both power on and power off your Windows Media Center PC.

Computer Configuration

There are various important points to notice on Wake On Lan:

Your computer must be connected to wired network. You cannot use Wake On Lan through wireless network.
Your computers mainboard and/or network card must support Wake On Lan, which not all do.
Under Windows 7, some computers only supports Wake On Lan when the computer is in standby, while a fully powered off machine cannot be powered on. Under Windows 8, fully powered off machines cannot be powered on. See details here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2776718/en-us

The configuration of Wake On Lan can be complicated. If you have a novice user, we recommend getting an advanced or a professional user to help you with the communication.

Step 1:

Check for a Wake On Lan option in your computers BIOS, and enable it. The BIOS is typically entered by pressing Del, F1 or F2 when starting your machine, before Windows starts, this depends on the computer, and therefore cannot be commonly described. Similar, the location of the Wake On Lan option also differs in different computer BIOSes, and you therefore need to search for it - if your computer does not support Wake On Lan, the configuration in BIOS will not be available.

Step 2:

Start Windows, and open "Device Manager" in Control Panel, and locate your primary network card under "Network adapters", and right click to open properties for the device.

Under the "Advanced" tab, locate the property "Wake on Magic Packet", and make sure that this is set to "Enabled". If you cannot locate this property in the list, your network card does not support Wake On Lan.

Step 3:

Still having the network card properties page open, open the "Power Management" tab. Check the options "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", and the option "Allow this device to wake the computer".

The option "Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer" must also be checked, as any network query against the computer otherwise will cause the computer to wake. Since the My Movies mobile applications sends network commands to query the state of the computer, this would cause the computer to wake in unwanted situations.

Step 4:

If your machine is woken from sleep, the default settings in Windows will by require you to input your account password before entering Windows.

The My Movies mobile application cannot control the PC when on the login screen, and you therefore must open "Power Options" in "Control Panel", and on the left side click the link "Require a password on wake-up". The radiobutton "Require a password (recommended)" must be changed to "Don't require a password".

Step 5:

It is recommended that you configure your Windows Media Center PC to automatically log in when the computer starts, as the My Movies mobile application also here is unable to control the PC until you are logged in.

Run the command "netplwiz", which will open a dialog named "User Accounts". On the first page, uncheck the box "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer.", and press "Apply". You will not be prompted to input the username and password for the account you would like the computer to automatically log into.

Your computer is now configured for Wake On Lan.

Mobile Device Configuration

To use the Wake On Lan feature in the Remote Control part of the My Movies mobile applications, the device must be manually configured. You cannot use automatically detected hosts with Wake On Lan, and Wake On Lan also only works with the Host PC, and cannot be used with Windows Media Center Extenders.

It is recommended that you configure a static IP for your Windows Media Center PC, either through your router by assigning a static IP address for the Mac Address, or by setting a static IP address on the Windows Media Center PC itself, outside of the IP scope that the router is configured to use for DHCP.

Step 1:

Power on your Windows Media Center PC, and make sure that it is not in standby. Windows Media Center is not required to be running during this process.

Step 2:

Open "Settings" on the My Movies mobile application, click the "Remote Control" area, and click "Enable".

Step 3:

Click "Add Player", and select "My Movies for WMC".

Step 4:

Enter the name the device should appear with in the Remote Control section, and enter the IP address of the Windows Media Center PC in the "IP Address" box.

Step 5:

Click on the "Enable" checkbox under "Wake On Lan". It is important that you do not check this until you have entered the IP address of the Windows Media Center PC, as the mobile application in most situations can detect the Mac Address of the computer.

Step 6:

If the Mac Address is not automatically filled in, you must enter the Mac Address in the format "XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX". You can typically determine the device Mac address in your router, otherwise, you can run "cmd" on your computer, and type "ipconfig /all" where you can locate your network adapter, and locate it's Mac address.

Step 7:

You can optionally configure the timeout for the for the My Movies mobile application to wait for your machine to start before it threats the lack of response as a lost connection. The default is 120 seconds, and if your computer takes longer than this to start up and be ready, you must increase this value.

The My Movies mobile application can now be used to power on and off your Windows Media Center PC through Wake On Lan.

Background

The fully automated creation of lossless MKV files is added to the My Movies for Windows software with the purpose of giving home theater owners who would like the best possible quality in their home theater an alternative to full BDMV, VIDEO_TS and ISO files, allowing for playback on more device types.

The functionality is initially added as part of the Video Converter function of the software, which means that the DVD or Blu-ray title must be copied to the server in BDMV, VIDEO_TS or ISO format, before the video converter can convert the titles to MKV, or, you can configure the disc copier to copy directly to the Video Converter function to copy directly to the MKV file.

Requirements and Notices

The process of creating MKV files consists of multiple processes combined, where the software initially extracts all content from Blu-ray titles, including all audio tracks and subtitles, where for DVD's, all video content is extracted, but only the configured subtitles is extracted for DVD's.

This full extraction is done to the internal temporary directory used by My Movies, which by default is placed on the primary drive of your service. Since this can be problematic due to the size of the drive, it is recommended that you configure the temporary directory using the advanced configuration in the video converter, before you start converting MKV files.

Once extracted, the MKV file is build directly in the target directory as a temporary file, and once finalized, moved to the final resulting filename. In case the MKV's are to be stored on external storage device, which is not the same as the server itself, the process of creating the MKV can take time due to heavy network traffic, and if the source title is also on an external storage, this time will increase even more, as the extraction is done to the servers internal storage, and then the MKV is created directly onto the final storage location.

Movie Disc Handling

Discs are by default handled as a movie disc, unless the meta-data specifically configures that the disc contains a TV Series.

For movie discs, the software will attempt to detect the main movie of the disc, using different approaches in the following order:

The information in the meta-data of which title set contains the main movie is initially used. This information is defined in the meta-data by reading the disc title structure in the Collection Management programs disc editing area, and marking the main movie in the title and chapter editing section. It is recommended to contribute this information to the online service, to make the information available for everyone copying the same title in the future. This approach is only used if there is an exact match between the structure known in the meta-data and the read structure of the copied disc - therefore, if you add titles manually, it is important that you add the correct title by adding titles by barcode or disc id, and not by title searches.
If the meta-data could not be used to determine the main movie, the software goes through all title sets on the disc, and reads the length of the title set. The title set that comes nearest the length of the running time specified on the movie profile is expected to be the main movie, and will be the one used.
If the running time is not specified on the movie profile, the software goes through the titles, and selects the longest title set, which is expected to be the main movie. This is the same approach that you will find with players and software that supports BD-lite playback models without full menu playback. The difference between these players is that the first two approaches should ensure a better accuracy, and, you can always through the meta-data override any assumption the software will do.

Should you find that a movie disc is copied wrong, please always read the disc structure in the Collection Management program, and mark the correct main movie in the title and chapter editor, and contribute this information to the online service, which ensures that yourself and others copying the disc in the future will get a correct copy.

TV Series Disc Handling

Discs are handled as TV Series discs in case this is specifically configured in the title meta-data.

For TV Series discs on Blu-ray, it is currently required that the episodes are mapped in the Collection Management program's disc editing dialog, in the title and chapter editor.

Once a disc is mapped, a separate MKV file will be created for each episode.

For DVD titles, the episodes meta-data mapping is primarily used, but if not existing, the software will attempt to determine which title set that contains episodes, and create individual MKV files for each. If the episodes on a DVD cannot be detected, the full content of the disc will be copied to individual MKV files.

For Blu-ray titles, it is not currently possible to automatically detect episodes, or copy the entire disc content, if the meta-data does not contain the episode information. This is something we hope to be able to update the software with the ability to handle.

Handling of Audio Tracks

You can in the video converter preferences define a primary and a secondary audio language, and the software will with default configuration include both of these audio languages.

You can in the advanced configuration specify if you would like the software to include the first found audio language of the selected languages, if it should include both of the selected, or if it should include all audio tracks.

Currently, all audio tracks of the selected language(s) will be included, which means that titles having multiple audio track types (DTS, AC-3, etc.) will include all in the resulting MKV file. This is something we plan to create configurations for in the future, allowing you to specify which to include.

Audio tracks that are marked as directors comments or for visually impaired is by default never included. You can configure to include these in the advanced configuration.

Handling of Subtitles

As with audio tracks, you can for subtitles define a primary and secondary subtitle language, and as with audio tracks, the software will with default configuration include both of these subtitle languages. The software will not currently honer the settings of embedding and including, but will always include what is selected.

For DVD's, if there is subtitles that on the DVD mastering is marked as forced, and an audio track of the same language exist, the subtitle will be included in the MKV, and will be marked in the MKV as forced, no matter if subtitles are selected or not, as there should not be situations where one would not want forced subtitles to be included.

For Blu-ray's, subtitles cannot directly be marked as forced, but on the subtitle tracks, there can be either parts of, or an entire subtitle that is to be forced. In case such subtitle is detected, the software will split the forced subtitles from the subtitle track, and will include this in the MKV as forced when an audio track of the same language is present, while the original subtitle file including the forced parts will be included depending on the subtitle settings. This approach for forced subtitles means that if a subtitle contains only forced parts, and the subtitle language is set to be included in general, the subtitle will currently be included twice - once as forced, as one as standard, which is something we hope to improve.

For Blu-ray's, there are known to be discs on the market where subtitle parts are not marked as forced, but instead BD-J or other internal parts of the Blu-ray forced the player to display the subtitle track, despite it not being marked as forced. If you find examples of such discs, we would love to receive information about them for review, as we hope in the future to be able to handle this through manual markings in the meta-data.

Providing feedback

The primary focus on the Pre Releases containing the MKV functionality is to determine if there are titles that cannot be converted to MKV files, due to conversion failures, and, to determine if there are titles that are handled incorrectly in terms of detection of the main movie, correct handling of TV Series structures and correct handling of audio and subtitle selections.

There may be several scenarios that can be improved, and the focus is to determine where this is.

To provide feedback, use our forums, and include the conversion logs in the forum post, and write what you find could be handled better with the title. The logs are available on the server in the files:

Why do DVD copying fail all the time?

When I copy a DVD to my harddrive or storage device using My Movies for Windows Media Center, My Movies Collection Management or My Movies for Windows Home Server, the copy quickly fail shortly after starting to copy. Why do these copies fail?

Answer:

My Movies by default only copy unprotected discs, and most DVD's are protected by CSS copy protections. If you are trying to copy a disc with CSS copy protection, the copy will fail as soon as My Movies starts to read one of the encrypted sectors.

Solution:

It is in some countries not allowed to break copy protection to copy a DVD onto harddrive or storage, even though you owe the disc in question. Users in countries where it is allowed, can install SlySoft AnyDVD* which removes copy protection on any disc inserted into the machine. SlySoft AnyDVD is a separate product from a separate company, and must be purchased separately - it is not included with My Movies.

How can I add a custom profile to the Video Converter?

I would like to make my own custom profile for the Video Converter in My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011, how can I do that?

Answer:

The Video Converter uses HandBrake (http://handbrake.fr/) for the video conversion, and the profiles used in the Video Converter consists of a series of command line parameters for HandBrake (see parameter options here), depending on user settings. Because the user can choose between different options for audio tracks, subtitles and subtitle embed method, there are different command lines for different configurations in the profile.

On the Windows Home Server, profiles can be added to the following directory:

"C:\Program Files\Binnerup Consult\My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011\Transcoder Profiles"

You can use existing profiles for reference, but we stronly recommend not to edit existing profiles, but instead create a new file with your custom profile - otherwise, your profile will be overwritten on updates of the My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011 package.

The profiles are stored in an XML document, which can be edited in notepad or similar editor.

Below is an example of a profile (the iPhone 4 profile):

MainFeature - Default for when no specifics for audio and subtitles have been set by the user.

MainFeatureAudioSpecific - Used when the user have selected audio preferences and the video converter based on that have selected a specific audio track. This profile must contain the "-a {0}" string for the audio parameter, where {0} will be replaced with the audio track selected by the video converter based on the user preferences.

MainFeatureAudioSpecificWithSubtitles - Used when both audio and subtitle preferences have been set. This profile must specify both the "-a {0}" and the "-s {1}" strings for audio and subtitle parameters, where {0} will be replaced with the audio track selected by the video converter, and {1} will be replaced with the subtitle track selected by the video converter based on the user preferences.

MainFeatureWithSubtitles - Used when only subtitle preferences have been set. This profile must contain the "-s {0}" string for the subtitle parameter, where {0} will be replaced with the subtitle track selected by the video converter based on the user preferences.

Notice that all profile types are named "MainFeature", and have the "--main-feature" set as the first parameter. This is required, and must be present in all custom profiles as well - the "--main-feature" setting will be replaced by a specific episode title when converting TV Series DVD's.

You are much welcomed to post your custom profiles for others to use on our forums. Please however only post custom profiles where you have set and configured all profile types as they should be, even if you do not yourself use options such as subtitles or burn in options - otherwise these profiles will leave the configuration in My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011 invalid.

The Video Converter function in My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011 is designed to convert copied DVD and Blu-ray discs to MP4 file format for usage with mobile devices such as iPod, iPhone, iPad and Android devices, and for usage through the Windows Home Server built-in DNLA server to DNLA devices such as Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Smart TV's.

The Video Converter can convert to either one or two formats, and can store the titles in the same folder as the source title, or can place the converted titles in a separate folder, such as "Mobile Movies". The files are created with embedded meta-data, and can be added to iPod, iPhone or iPad devices through iTunes, or can be copied to the SD card of Android devices.

Limitations:

The converter only supports full DVD and Blu-ray copies that are either copied using the My Movies Disc Copier, or identified by My Movies Monitoring.
Subtitles is currently not supported on Blu-ray's. All settings for subtitles applies to DVD's only.
The converter currently only copies to MP4 files, other file types are not supported as output formats. The solution uses HandBrake as back-end conversion engine, and advanced users can create additional profiles allowing for conversion to MKV or other H.264 compatible format.
While conversion of Blu-ray ISO files is supported, it requires manual installation of SlySoft Virtual CloneDrive on the Windows Home Server, though a Remote Desktop connection.

Why does my titles not follow the sort title when browsing on the Dune player?

My titles are not sorted by the sort title when browsing the title lists on my Dune player, why is that?

Answer:

The Dune player is basically an advanced folder browser, and not an interface you can do actual programming against, which means it is a lot less intelligent compared to an interface such as Windows Media Center. You can compare the device with a file and folder browser such as Windows Explorer, but with the ability to replace the folders with graphis pieces, and control the position of these graphics pieces.

This leads to the answer to why the device does not follow the sort titles when browsing - there is no technical way with these devices to control the sort order, which means the sort order is following the alfabetic naming of the displayed title (folder) name, and not the sort title settings, simply because it lists folders.

Using the Dune player, all settings for sort titles and personal sort titles is therefore not used, and cannot technically be used with the current functionality of the players.

How can I change the e-mail address on my account?

If you can still remember your usename and password, you can change your e-mail address through our forums. Open http://www.mymovies.dk/forum.aspx in a Web Browser, and click the "Log In" button in the upper right corner. Log in with your current username and password - if you cannot remember your password, but still have access to the e-mail address currently registered to your account, you can have your username and password sent to you by using the "Lost Password" function on the "Log In" page. After logging in, click the "My Profile" link in the upper right corner, and then the "Edit Profile" in the left side of the screen. Scroll down, and input the e-mail you would like to change to in the "Change Email Address" section and press "Save". The system will send an e-mail to your new e-mail address for you to validate the existance of the new e-mail address - your change will not be effected until the validation link have been clicked.

Notice! If you do not have access to the e-mail address that is currently registered to your account, and you cannot remember your username and password, you may contact us at support@mymovies.dk. We will validate that the account is yours by asking a few specific questions about it.

You currently cannot change your password from within the My Movies applications, but you can change your password through our forums. Open http://www.mymovies.dk/forum.aspx in a Web Browser, and click the "Log In" button in the upper right corner. Log in with your current username and password. After logging in, click the "My Profile" link in the upper right corner, and then the "Edit Profile" in the left side of the screen. Scroll down, and input your old password and new password in the "Change Password" section and press "Save".

Notice! If you have forgot your username or password, you can always use the "Lost account" function in the applications to retrieve it. Notice that the "Lost account" function will change your password to a new auto-generated one, which you can then change to your preference through the forums.

How can I change the title or sort title to my personal preference?

I would like to change the title or the sort title for one of the profiles in my collection to my personal preferences instead of what is stored on the online service. How can I do that?

Answer:

You cannot change the title or sort title on the general profile as this profile is shared between all useres, but you can overwrite them with a personal title or sort title, which when present will be used instead of these.

On My Movies for iPhone, iPad or Android, you can add this by pressing the "Show More" in the "Personal Data" area of the movie details page, and change the "Title" and "Sort Title" to what you prefer.

In My Movies for Windows Phone, you can open the menu from the movie details page, and select "Edit Personal Data", and change the "Title" and "Sort Title" to what you prefer.

In My Movies for Mac OS X, you can add this by clicking the "Personal" tab of the title editor and change the "Title" and "Sort Title" to what you prefer.

In My Movies Collection Management for Windows, you can click the "Personal Data" editing button in the bottom of the title editing screen, and change "Title" and "Sort Title" to what you prefer.

The personal title and sort title are synchronized to the online servers for your collection, which means that it will transfer between all the devices where you are using your My Movies user account, and therefore act as global change for your collection.

Background:

When using My Movies, titles added to your collection, with the exception of titles created manually are profiles shared between all users of the online service - this ensures that your profiles are always kept up to date with the latest data, and this method is also what allows you to use your collection on multiple devices and automatically synchronize data between clients.

This also means that data changes on the global profile affects not only yourself, but all users having the same title in their collection, which is why you cannot change the data on the profiles from the mobile devices, and why changes contributed from the Windows or Mac software strictly must follow the contribution guidelines.

How the titles are sorted, and how the movie title is presented can however be preferred individually by each user, where some users prefers to refer to the "James Bond / 007" movies as "James Bond: Quantom of Solance", others as "007: Quantom of Solance" and some only as "Quantom of Solance", therefore you can overwrite the title and sort title with the personal titles like this.

We believe that with that the exception of titles, the data on a retail title is not something that users should have personal preferences over - either the data is correct, or the data is incorrect. If the data is incorrect, it should be corrected on the global profile, and not only on the profile in your collection, which is why you can report incorrect data to our moderators, or contribute changes to the profiles in My Movies for Mac OS X or My Movies Collection Management for Windows, either to correct incorrect data, or to improve the data on the profile in general.

Can I exclude a specific folder from folder monitoring?

If you are monitoring a folder such as "X:\Movies", but would like to exclude a specific folder such as "X:\Movies\Home Videos", you can create an empty file called "mymovies.dna" in the "X:\Movies\Home Videos" folder, which will instruct monitoring to ignore the folder.

To create an empty "mymovies.dna" file, you must disable the option "Hide extention for known file types" in the "Folder Options" configuration found in Control Panel. You can now right click in the "X:\Movies\Home Videos" folder and select "New", "Text Document", and rename the created file from "New Text Document.txt" to "mymovies.dna".

Why do some titles display with different data in my Online Collection?

Having configured my Online Collection, one or more of my titles do not show the same data or covers as the data or covers I have in my local collection. Why is the data or covers displayed different?

Answer:

The Online Collection is not an exact copy of your locally stored data, but instead it is a reference on your user account to the titles you have in your collection. This means that the data displayed on the Online Collection is the data stored online on the My Movies WebService for each of the titles in your collection.

If your locally stored data is improved compared to the data on the WebService, and your locally stored data follows the contribution guide, you can contribute your local changes, which will update the profile on the WebService for everyone, which also includes the titles in your Online Collection.

My purchased points does not appear on my account. How do I add them?

How do I get folder/movie monitoring to identify my titles as Blu-ray's instead of DVD's?

I have one or more HD titles in my collection that is stored in a different file format than an direct image (ISO) or BDMV folder structure format. Folder/movie monitoring identifies these titles as DVD's, rather than Blu-ray. How can I get folder/movie monitoring to identify these as Blu-ray's?

Answer:

As of version 4.02, folder/movie monitoring by default identifies Blu-ray images (ISO) or BDMV folder structures as Blu-ray's, and remaining media with a resolution of 720P or higher as Blu-ray's, but you can force detection as Blu-ray if you add the text "[Blu-ray]" to the folder name of your title. Notice that if the title have already been identified by folder/movie monitoring, you must remove the title from your collection and remove the meta-data stored in the folder, specifically the hidden "mymovies.xml" file stored in the folder, otherwise, the title will be re-identified as what it was last.
